    Curse your soul-sucking achievement system...
You know you've been playing Halo Wars too long when you start dreaming it.  I've done some crazy stuff in my sleep but being inside an RTS is a new one on me. And the rendering was terrible.

Summoning buildings by hand was pretty neat, though.

Because reading fics on the Pit gives me the rage-induced urge to write canon female bots dealing with things other than their own gender. Plus some arrogance and recklessness that actually acts as a bad thing.

It’s now two weeks since the end of my exams and things have – barely – slowed down enough for me to enjoy the break, family events, Star Trek viewings and lingering paperwork notwithstanding.

I also managed to do something to my long-suffering glasses that’s left hairline cracks all through the left lens, which means I’m doing some impromptu research on partial blindness. (Or that’s what I tell my OCD-leaning brain. Keeps down the axe-crazy urges…) What it seems to be making me do a lot of is avoid that side of my vision.

For the record, Star Trek? Largely one long slew of awesome. Less so the two parts of ‘Endgame’, which… weren’t bad, but definitely felt like TFA’s weakest season finale. Too much trying to wrap up too quickly, and the stakes involved seemed oddly small for wrapping up such a big plot arc. Seriously, another season is in order here…

    Tomorrow: random Minicon!Cliffjumper fic.

In defence of my general inactivity, I should point out that I have been doing something productive with my RL time…

Last week I got to present research at the National Psychology Students Congress. Asexuality and identity in a social context.

    Yep, still gleeful about that.

    Yeerks! Grousing! Armada Ironhide!

First things first: waking up to find half the planet celebrating around me - best start to the day ever. Every once in a while I wake up to some bit of news that makes me think I can feel the world change for the better around me. Very, very rarely, I think I'm not the only one.

    For something completely different... )

Complaints about fics on the Pit, whatever next? )

The upshot is that I see another damned Prowl and Jazz fic and I feel the need to write Armada and RiD Prowl (and then go catch up on Energon). However, the sight of yet another damned stupid plot consisting of 'LOOK! FEMMES!' got to me first. Instead, here is Armada Ironhide (exact same body type as the 'male' Dune Runner, twice his weight and strength, oppressed for reasons that have never included being a femme).

    Something slightly different today.

    Title: As It Should Be
Fandom: Halo, towards the end of Halo 3
Summary: 343 Guilty Spark is very clear on how things ought to proceed, especially at this point.

Today’s preamble topic: the Land Military Team. And, by extension, their Night Attack counterparts.

    And now, a silly fic.

    Series: RiD
Summary: Movor swears there’s something rotten in the local physics…

I will remember this journal exists. I will...
So, one week, and I’m home and free (literally) for Christmas. This has some bonuses (free food, good company, time to plot, read, write and blow things up via Xbox, w00t!). The downside is that it’s near-certain hiatus from the internet until oh, early January. That puts something of a dampener on it. But who knows. The break might do me good.

In the meantime, because I keep wanting to use it, here’s a small and silly fic, unnamed as yet.

    Series: RiD
Summary: Megatron wants to know what his new fliers are doing. The answer, of course, is ‘nothing useful'.

So. Still no IM of any kind and limited Internet, which makes me sad, as does the fact that Ireland appears to have no ginger ale worth drinking. (I mean really, is it too much to ask for something that actually tastes of ginger, as opposed to insipid… well, it doesn’t taste of anything, really. *sigh*) Also, we have assignments – a focus group to prepare, an essay due in ten days, and a test in the next Human Sexuality class. (And apparently reaction papers for the same due the week after. Whoo.) Also, NaNoWriMo draws near, and I only have vague plot ideas (Amazonian dryads? People who use magnet therapy to actually deactivate cursed objects when they steal them?) which are nevertheless clashing with the fanfics I’ve been picking at.

It doesn’t help that I wrote out a long list of things that post-RiD fic writers should consider, and now I want to write my own follow-up to see if I can get it right. (Long rant, summarised as ‘if you’re going to break the Decepticons out of prison, please to be considering what they’re supposed to do afterwards’.)

All of which is entirely personal and no more than a bunch of things I think would be fun to play with. (Must not write crackfic. Must not write crackfic.)

And back to Armada now. It hasn't been beta-ed as yet, sorry to say; feedback on the bits that make no sense is welcome as always.

And of course, feedback on the bits that do make sense are welcome, too.

    Title: Sterner Stuff
Summary: A certain Minicon team goes AWOL, and Laserbeak is sent to fetch them in.

     Bitty RiD one-shot today.

Retraction: After 'An Explosive Situation', Megatron retrieves Sky-byte, and wonders if he really wants to.

Anyway, silly Minicon one-shot, involving three separate 'teams', Edinburgh, and Yet Another Minicon Panel: Up the Wall

When'd I last fiddle with this? *pokes* Eh.I'm looking for betas for a bunch of little RiD and Armada fics. I'll add some actual content when they're done.

In the meantime, have a cool link (gah, no pun intended).

    Update for no reason

So Rag week has arrived and I have free time to spare, and therefore am out and about and looking to play. I finished my first RiD fic and now have to find other RiD fans. Tree genetics are insane. And I'm considering whether to pick up another Minicon pup in the Nexus. Also, I want pie.

    Argh, my brain...

I have a rant to type up about the state of RiD fic, but that will have to wait. Because although I'm only about three-quarters of the way through Victory and it's not nearly as good (says Pivot of the characterisation-addiction) as, say, Masterforce, the slash possibilities are exploding my brain. Because they are all screwy, and pretty, and would cause mindfucks galore.

(Hellbat = slash with wings. Just needed to say that.)

So, I finished watching RiD. (And saw another three eps of Armada, but that’s another story.)

The NaNoWriMo completion party begins now. Only the actual story to finish, which will probably go on past the next two days. Then the queuing fanfic bunnies. And the end-of-semester assignments. And getting organised for Christmas. I'm looking forward to getting off next week.

But then the rest of RiD and the next segment of Armada (the bit I can actually get) are due to arrive, and I've a pile of books to read, so I'll be busy enough, it seems. For now, though, there's stll a whole cube of unused run under the desk, and a box of matches to hand. Also the whiff of carbonated beverages from the drinks cupboard...

    Rant!

I had a full essay planned on this, but I felt like ranting now.

Cyclonus not being the ultimate evil does not equate to Cyclonus being nice to random kids

Cyclonus not being the ultimate evil does not equate to Cyclonus adopting every human child he comes across (that’s Diddlysquat’s job).

Cyclonus being a bit off his trolley does not equate to Cyclonus being the embodiment of a sugar-high fic. (I.e. he doesn’t just giggle, pet the humans and act cutely insane. It’s cute for those who don’t have to worry about getting killed by it.)

The moon is not habitable for humans.

The moon base with added oxygen is not habitable for humans.

The moon base with added oxygen and superb central heating is not habitable for humans in the long-term.

The moon base with added oxygen, superb central heating, water supply and toilet facilities is not easily habitable for humans in the long term, even if food is readily available.

A human living in the Decepticon base is not going to get proper schooling, medical care, social education or understanding of cultural norms. Emotional support is right out (unless Buzzsaw/Windsheer adopts her, which would be weird).

A human going from the moon to Earth is going to find she’s really heavy all of a sudden. If she’s been on the moon too long, her bones are gonna be weak and brittle as all get-out.

In short: A resident human is about as much use to the Decepticons as a dead triffid. Perhaps they could mail it to the Autobots and give them a nasty surprise, but that’s about it.
